Fulsoft AG, based in Basel, specialises in ERP software solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The company not only offers a comprehensive, high-performance ERP solution, but also a wide range of consultancy and support services relating to its implementation and operation. The alpha software solution, developed in-house, has been in development for over 25 years within the company itself and has been successfully implemented in more than 500 Swiss SMEs. To continue guaranteeing its customers maximum availability and security, Fulsoft decided to carry out a complete migration to the cloud.
Status quo
Prior to its partnership with CONVOTIS, Fulsoft operated its clients’ ERP applications on a terminal server infrastructure provided by an external supplier.
This environment was outdated, regularly causing downtime lasting several hours and even leading to data loss. Furthermore, the provider demanded substantial investment in new servers and a five-year contract commitment. For Fulsoft, it was clear: a flexible, stable and future-proof solution was needed.
The challenge
The biggest challenges lay in the urgency and complexity:
• Migrating more than 40 users and more than 25 corporate client companies within a few weeks
• Ensuring compatibility for alpha, alphaLohn, Comatic and other additional modules
• Creating a scalable infrastructure that allows flexible access via desktop or app and takes into account different client requirements.
The solution
CONVOTIS designed a bespoke cloud architecture based on Citrix services and a dedicated configuration of application servers and terminal servers.
Within 20 days, the infrastructure was up and running, and the first customers were able to migrate to production after just 30 days. In addition to the alpha ERP solution, Office, Comatic and individual data units were also integrated. Thanks to automated processes and a flexible billing model, Fulsoft’s customers were able to use the services according to their needs, ranging from individual applications to a full Windows desktop.
The result
The migration was far from being a standard project. Technical peculiarities such as the separate management of sys_alpha databases per user and shared business data required a bespoke design.
Today, Fulsoft and its clients benefit from a stable, cloud-based solution offering high availability, flexible scalability and reduced administrative overhead. Thanks to CONVOTIS, the transition was implemented in just a few weeks – a major milestone for more than 500 SMEs that rely on alpha.
