Fulsoft AG, based in Basel, specialises in ERP software solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The company not only offers a high-performance end-to-end ERP solution, but also comprehensive consultancy and services relating to its implementation and operation. The in-house developed software solution, alpha, has been developed entirely in-house for over 25 years and has been successfully implemented at more than 500 Swiss SMEs. To continue guaranteeing its customers the highest levels of availability and security, Fulsoft opted for a comprehensive cloud migration.
Status quo
Before partnering with CONVOTIS, Fulsoft operated its clients’ ERP applications on a terminal server infrastructure hosted by an external provider.
This environment was outdated, regularly caused outages lasting several hours and even led to data loss. Furthermore, the provider required significant investment in new servers as well as a five-year contract commitment. For Fulsoft, it was clear that a flexible, stable and future-proof solution was needed.
The challenge
The biggest challenges lay in the urgency and complexity:
• Migrating more than 40 users and over 25 company licences within a few weeks
• Ensuring compatibility for alpha, alphaLohn, Comatic and other add-on modules
• Setting up a scalable infrastructure that allows flexible desktop or app access and accommodates different customer requirements.
The solution
CONVOTIS designed a bespoke cloud architecture based on Citrix services and a dedicated app and terminal server setup.
The infrastructure was deployed within 20 days, and the first customers were able to migrate to a production environment after just 30 days. In addition to the alpha ERP solution, Office, Comatic and individual data drives were also integrated. Thanks to automated processes and a flexible billing model, Fulsoft customers were able to use services tailored to their needs – ranging from individual apps to a full Windows desktop.
The result
The migration was anything but a standard project. Technical peculiarities, such as the separate handling of sys_alpha databases for each user and shared company data, required a bespoke design.
Today, Fulsoft and its customers benefit from a stable, cloud-based solution offering high availability, flexible scalability and reduced administrative overhead. Thanks to CONVOTIS, the migration was completed within a few weeks – a milestone for over 500 SMEs that rely on alpha.
